Gear Review: Osight SE 6 MOA Enclosed Red Dot Sight

If you’re a regular reader here, you’ve seen our reviews of Osight’s SE enclosed emitter models. We’ve tried out a red and a green model, both with three reticle options using a 2 MOA dot, a 32 MOA ring or both. There’s also a 6 MOA green dot-only model out there.

Osight has now added a 6 MOA red dot-only model which, you’d have to think, will complete their SE enclosed emitter line.

Aside from the dot color and size options, the SE sights are basically the same. Read our other SE reviews for the full picture. They’re well built, using 7075 aluminum housings and run on a CR1620 battery that’s accessed through a side-loading door so you don’t have to remove the sight to change it out.

Rated battery life is 75,000 hours, something we won’t be testing. Assuming that’s even remotely accurate, that’s over eight years of run time. I don’t know about you, but I like to swap my batteries out once every year or so anyway, so I don’t expect to have it ever conk out on me.

Being a smaller sight, the Osight SE 6 MOA red dot is built with the ultra-popular RMSc mounting footprint (Osight also sells a conversion plate for RMR mounts). In an earlier review, I mounted an SE on a Springfield Hellcat where it was was very much at home in an everyday carry role. Here, though, I put it on one of my favorite guns, the FN 509 Midsize Tactical.

As you can see, while it’s small enough to work on a micro-compact like the Hellcat, it’s isn’t out of place at all on the larger 509 Midsize. And for me, if you’re just going with a dot, the 6MOA dot size is the best option in virtually all lighting conditions (FYI, the dot doesn’t show as well in images as it does IRL with the naked eye).

In short, the verdict on this latest Osight SE model is pretty much as it was on the earlier models. This is a very well designed enclosed red dot sight that does everything you need it to do and does it at an incredibly affordable price.

Another feature of Osight’s optics that’s worth a mention is their packaging. In addition to including the sight, a battery and a range bag-ready adjustment tool, Osight ships their red dots with a fantastic kit that gives you a range of mounting screws so you can mount your sight to just about any pistol made.

This is just an incredibly handy thing to have in your arsenal.

They also thoughtfully enclose this “get started” card that’s pretty standard, except that it includes the recommended torque settings for the mounting screws…another thing that too few companies think about.
